Fills and available balance

A fill happens when your order trades with another person’s order. An order can fill all at once, in several parts, or not at all.

Full and partial fills

Suppose you place a limit order to buy 10 YES shares at no more than 58 cents each. If only four shares are available at that price, four shares fill and the other six stay open.

Those six shares can fill later if another trader accepts your price. You can also cancel the unfilled part without changing the four shares you already bought.

Market orders can also fill in several parts. If the available shares have different prices, each part trades at its available price and your order has an average fill price.

Juhus checks the available amount before you submit a market order. Offers can still change before execution, especially during a live-event delay. A market order entered as a number of shares can then fill only partly and leave the remainder open. Cancel that remainder if you do not want it to wait. A market buy entered as a euro amount may instead be rejected if the available offers can no longer support it.

Buy orders do not reserve cash

Placing a buy order does not move money into a separate reserve. If the order remains open, the cash stays in your balance and can still be used elsewhere. Cash leaves your balance only when shares actually fill, together with any applicable fee.

Juhus checks whether your balance can cover a new buy and your other open buys for the same outcome in that market. This check does not set the money aside.

Because the cash remains spendable, an open buy can become unaffordable later. For example, you might use the balance on another market before the original order finds a match. If there is not enough cash when the order tries to fill, Juhus may cancel its unfilled part automatically.

Example

This example excludes fees so the balance movement is easier to see.

StepCash balanceShares receivedUnfilled shares
Start€100.0000
Place a buy for 10 shares at 58 cents€100.00010
Four shares fill at 58 cents€97.6846
Cancel the remaining order€97.6840

Cancelling the remaining six shares does not return cash because no cash was reserved for them. The €2.32 already paid for the four completed shares stays spent.

Selling uses shares you own

You can sell only shares you own and that are not already committed to another active sell order. Once a sell order is active, its unfilled shares are unavailable for a second sell order.

When a sale fills, the shares leave your position and the proceeds are added to your cash balance, less any applicable fee. If you cancel the unfilled part, those shares become available to sell again.

What the order status tells you

  • Open: none of the order has traded yet.
  • Partially filled: some shares traded and the rest are still waiting.
  • Filled: all shares in the order traded.
  • Scheduled: the linked event is live and the order has not been released yet. You can still abort it.
  • Cancelled: the unfilled part will not trade. Any completed part remains valid.

An order may be cancelled because you cancelled it, it expired, the market was settled, or the cash or shares needed for the unfilled part were no longer available.
